Here is the list of Exchange Server Editions released by the Microsoft till date:-
1. Exchange Server 1.0 –Microsoft Exchange, later called as Windows Messaging was an email client that was supported in the Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0.
2. Exchange Server 4.0 – This version was released on June 11, 1996, was positioned as an upgrade to Microsoft Mail 3.5 and was the original version of Exchange Server sold to the public.
3. Exchange Server 5.0- This Exchange version was released on May 23, 1997 which introduced the new Exchange Administrator Console for configuring and managing the Exchange Server.
4. Exchange Server 5.5- This version as introduced in Nov, 1997 and was sold in Standard and Enterprise Editions.
5. Exchange Server 2000- This version was released on Nov.29, 2000 (code name Platinum) overcame many limitations of the previous Exchange editions.
6. Exchange Server 2003-This version was released on Sep.28, 2003 (code name Titanium) introduced some new features over previous editions.
7. Exchange Server 2007-This version was released on Nov.30, 2006 introduced lots of new terms and features with better performance and security.
8. Exchange Server 2010-Released in Oct.29, 2009 offers new storage and cluster features.
Here is the list of most commonly ports used by the Exchange Server:-
1. Exchange System Attendant uses port 135 inbound, TCP 6002-6004 inbound when using RPC over HTTP.
2. Exchange Information Store uses TCP 135 inbound TCP 6001 inbound when using RPC over HTTP.
3. Exchange Routing Engine uses TCP 691 for inbound and outbound.
4. WWW service used port 80 for HTTP and 443 for HTTPs.
5. SMTP uses port 25 inbound and outbound.
6. POP3 which is disabled by default uses port 110 inbound and 995 inbound when using with SSL.
7. IMAP4 which is disabled by default uses port 143 inbound and 993 inbound when using with SSL.
8. NNTP which is disabled by default uses port 119 inbound and port 563 when using with SSL.
9. ActiveSync uses port 2883 on the front-end servers.
10. LDAP uses port 3268 to communicate with the Global Catalog servers.
